Cathy Brooks

Cathy is a career communications professional whose work has ranged from radio to television, newspaper and digital platforms. Her career path also has run through Silicon Valley where she worked in public relations, event content curation, and business development. In 2008 after engaging as an LGBT activist, Cathy began exploring how personal stories impact people’s professional lives.

Four years later she turned that on herself, and everything changed.

After a conversation with then CEO of Zappos Tony Hsieh, Cathy traveled to Las Vegas, NV to see Hsieh’s project to revitalize downtown. Six months later, Cathy moved there and opened The Hydrant Club, an educational facility catering to an urban dog community. Cathy avoids the cliché “dog whisperer”, calling herself a “canine counselor”. She applies her career in communications and her life-long hobby of studying dog behavior to facilitate relationships between dogs and their humans. Through private instruction, group classes, and structured programming at her facility, Cathy helps dogs understand their actual place in a family, and helps the humans better understand their dogs.

Through this work, Cathy expanded her services, recently launching Unleashed Leadership – a consulting and coaching practice leading businesses to financial success through effective and powerful engagement (between humans). Unleashed Leadership includes a podcast, event series, and private/group coaching. Her mission goes beyond helping businesses thrive, to a vision of a world made better by supporting people in more effective and authentic communciation with each other.
